Nourished

We’ve all been there. You’re in the middle of a busy day when all of the sudden you realize you haven’t eaten. Your stomach is growling, and you feel the pangs of hunger. Perhaps you had been feeling that way for a while and hadn’t noticed until suddenly it seemed like an urgent matter. So, you go to the kitchen and grab something from the pantry or swing through a drive thru. Problem solved.

Or is it?

If your choice was pre-packaged or fast food because you were in a rush, you simply fed yourself. You likely didn’t really get the nourishment you needed. You just got food in your belly so you could make it through the rest of your busy day. Unfortunately, if you do this over and over again, your body is likely going to end up deprived of the essential vitamins and nutrients you need to function optimally.

We do the same thing spiritually.

We know we need something, but we “don’t have time.” So, we grab the easiest or sometimes prettiest pre-packaged spiritual snack. We listen to a sermon while we get ready in the morning or turn on a Christian podcast while we shower. We listen to Christian music or worship music on the way to work. Maybe we even make time to read the latest Christian book your friend recommended.

All of these things are helpful and can complement how we nourish ourselves spiritually, but we must learn to self feed on real nutrient-dense sustenance. I’m talking about learning from God Himself through the Word, the Holy Spirit and prayer. I’m talking about going straight to the source for the best spiritual meal you’ve ever eaten.

Some of you who prefer chicken nuggets might not agree, but there is no comparison between a quick burger and a gourmet steak dinner with perfectly paired sides. They’re made from the same ingredients, but the presentation is different. There are some of the same elements, but the intentionality and orchestration behind the scenes is nowhere near the same. This is a quick copy/paste versus a tailored experience.

That’s what the Lord has for you if you take the time to sneak away to the secret place with Him: a spiritually satisfying and nourishing meal. No more running on spiritual fumes and complaining that we don’t feel God or wonder why we’re struggling. You are invited to a table that He prepares. MAKE ROOM to pull up a chair with Him. He is the treasure. He is the prize.

Psalm 23:5
You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies.
You honor me by anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.
