Sleep
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve likely heard of The Chosen. While some fans can be a bit intense, I’ll admit that the show is powerful and beautifully done. This week, I was watching the last episode of the most recent season when the Holy Ghost spoke to me clearly.
Jesus brought His disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane. He told most of them to stay at the entrance, but took Peter, James and John a little farther in. He knew they were going to fall asleep. He knew how little time He had left with them. Knowing this too, I watched and thought, “They’re going to regret that.” Immediately, the Holy Spirit whispered, “You will too.”
It hit me like a gut punch not in condemnation but in clarity.
Over the last few weeks, I’ve stayed connected to the Lord, but I haven’t made as much time for lingering. I haven’t made frequent space for the extended time I know He desires. Honestly, I’ve let comfort win. For a season, my husband is still laying beside me when I wake up. Those first few comfy, cuddly minutes of the day feel like luxury. While I don’t typically spend my quiet time in the mornings because I’m not a morning person, I do know this about myself: 5am is the only time of day I don’t have any excuses.
There are no demands, no meetings, no messages. There is only margin.
So, after that word from the Lord, I got up early this week. I started my days on my knees at the feet of Jesus. In that stillness, He reminded me of a verse that encouraged me to launch this blog:
What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes.
What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear.
Matthew 10:27
When we MAKE ROOM to be with our Triune God, treasures unfold, and they’re not just for our own growth. Rather, we are to pass them along to light the path for others as we build the Kingdom. These sacred whispers become tools for the journey. They shape us, steady us and send us.
I don’t want to sleep through the invitation. I don’t want to wake up with regret. If you’ve felt the nudge to wake up, to show up or to kneel, consider this your invitation. Don’t wait. Let’s not sleep through the garden. Let’s meet Him there. MAKE ROOM because He is the treasure. He is the prize.
